Anilox Roller

Anilox rollers are metal cylinders that meter ink in flexographic presses. A steel or aluminium core supports a ceramic outer layer. The ceramic surface contains millions of tiny pockets, each pocket created by laser or mechanical engraving. Every pocket holds a set ink quantity. When the roller turns, it transfers that exact amount to the plate, giving equal color across the job. Cell size, cell shape and the count of cells per inch fix the ink load. A high count measured as high LPI releases a thin film for fine detail. A low count lays down a thick film for solid areas plus coatings. Because the pockets control the volume, the print gains sharp edges, correct hue and repeatability. Printers use the same roller family for film, board, paper or metal decorating. The ceramic layer tolerates solvent, water, besides UV inks as well as routine cleaning chemicals - the roller lasts for years. Daily care - washing out dried ink but also inspecting for scratches - keeps the pockets open and the volume stable.
